The San Clemente St. Vincent’s de Paul Group philosophy is to build relationships with the community, both locally, nationally and globally. We are interested in social justice issues and the consideration of others less fortunate than ourselves.
In 2010, we have visited the “Youth with a Mission” medical ship which was docked in Newcastle Harbour. The YWAM ship travels to disadvantaged areas of the world to carry out missionary work and provide much needed medical services to poor communities, such as basic health care, dental care and optical care. The students were inspired to meet the medical staff and crew, who are all volunteers.
Over the last couple of years, we have fundraised to contribute to St Jude’s School, Tanzania, which supports and educates children in need. You can access St Jude's latest update letter here.
The St. Vincent’s de Paul Group has organised and run the annual Christmas Appeal for a number of years, as well as supporting other charities throughout the year.
In addition to our traditional fundraising activities, we are beginning to foster a relationship with Mayfield Aged Care, spending time chatting and listening to the elderly. We also wish to continue our relationship with the Hunter Orthopaedic School, spending time with students of various ages with disabilities.
The St. Vincent de Paul group in the school hosted a fund-raising barbeque.
