Netball
On Thursday 1st August, 4 of our girls teams competed in the annual Maitland-Newcastle Diocesan Netball Championships at National Park, Cooks Hill. All of the girls were outstanding, playing with enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the entire day. Particular congratulations goes to our Year 8 Junior Girls team, who made it all the way to the semi-finals before going down in a close game to St Joseph’s Lochinvar. It was great to see the semi-final being played and all of our girls teams surrounding the court to cheer and support the Year 8 team from the sidelines! Thank you very much to Mrs Denham and Mrs Browne for all of their efforts in coaching and managing their teams throughout the day. A special mention also goes to Sarah Cross from Year 7, who was refereeing all day in between games (in both the 9-10 and 11-12 division games) and did an outstanding job.

Rugby Union
Congratulations to all girls who were involved in the Girls Rugby Union 7’s Festival at Hunter Valley Grammar School last Thursday 8th August. All of the girls played with sportsmanship and were outstanding all day. Unfortunately, neither our U14s or U16s made the semis, however they all gained some valuable playing experience playing against the likes of strong Rugby schools such as Hunter Valley Grammar, Hunter Sports High and Scone Grammar.

In particularly, Taania Agnew (who was on crutches only last week) and Lydia Mulherin were fantastic for the U14s, while Imogen Hope and Stella Compton lead the way for the U16s. Thank you also to both Mrs Browne and Mr Mlotkowski, who were coaching the girls and giving them great playing advice all day. This clearly showed as both teams showed significant improvement as the day went on.

Oztag
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, our Junior Girls Year 7/8 Oztag team represented San Clemente at the NSW Oztag Champion of Champions Tournament in Werrington. Playing against some very tough opposition, including Selective Sports High Schools from Sydney, our girls managed to win 1 and draw 1 from their 5 games. A couple of very tight (and unlucky!) losses ended their campaign at this stage. All girls should be incredibly proud of their efforts in making it to this stage of the competition! Again, a big thank you to Mrs Browne who accompanied the girls down to Sydney to compete in the tournament.

Rugby League U14 All Schools
Last week the Under 14 Boys Rugby League team travelled to Penrith to compete in the NSW Rugby League All Schools, eventually finishing 3rd in NSW.

The day began against South Sydney High School where the team demonstrated their skill and ability, winning 16 – 4 in a dominating victory.

The team then played Mulwaree High School in what was a tightly contested and fierce match. Unfortunately after two disallowed tries and some ill-discipline, the boys were defeated 6 – 0.

The team then qualified for the semi-final where they came up against St Edwards College Gosford. After conceding the first try, the team rallied themselves and worked themselves back into the game, scoring two exhilarating tries. Unfortunately, after leading for the majority of the game, the team were defeated in the final moments of the match, going down 12 – 10.

St Edwards eventually won the Grand Final convincingly, proving that our team can match it with the very best in the state.

All players should be proud of how far they progressed as this is an amazing achievement. Notable mentions go to Cooper Read and Harrison Sam who both played exceptionally well today.

A huge thank you also to Paul Sams for acting as our trainer today and also to our Assistant Coach Rowan Pfeiffer who helped coach the boys and run the water.

We will now start preparing for next year.

Special Mentions:

  • Best of luck to both of our Girls and Boys Hockey teams who will represent our school at the NSWCCC Hockey Championships to be held at Broadmeadow Hockey Centre next week!
  • Good luck to our U14 and U16 Girls Rugby League teams who will represent our school in the Caitlin Moran Shield at Windale next Tuesday!
  • Good luck to our 4 Rep Basketball Teams in the Maitland-Newcastle Diocesan Basketball Championships on Monday 26th August!
  • Good luck to our U13s Boys Rugby Union team who will represent our school in the Hunter Rugby Union Secondary 7s competition at Waratah Park on Tuesday 27th August!
  • A quick shout out to Logan Aoake from Year 8, who only narrowly missed selection in the NSWCCC U15s Touch Football team last week. Logan only turned 14 this year, therefore we are sure he will be a huge chance to gain selection in the team next year!
