Exploring the value of Shakespeare today

Lots of learning and even more opinions have been flying around the English classrooms this term, in relation to our friend Shakespeare.  Years 8, 9 and 10 have been delving into his plays, to varying degrees and different purposes, however, the one thing that they all have in common, is the division between the fans and the haters.

Obviously, I love sharing my thoughts and ideas about Shakespeare with my classes, but this has created some heated discussions about the merit and value of 400-year-old texts in contemporary schools…even Hollywood couldn’t help me that much.

The English Faculty have created some fantastic visuals within their rooms to help entice, engage and entertain students with their respective Shakespearean topics.

I look forward to reading the tasks once they are submitted to see how well the students convince us and themselves, of the relevance of the Bard’s work in our world today.
