Last week San Clemente students competed in the NSW All Schools Touch Football Competition at Tomaree Sports Complex, Nelson Bay. We fielded teams in the Boys 7/8 division, Girls 7/8 division and Girls 9/10 division.

Boys 7 /8 Touch Football had a successful day at the competition with two wins and a draw ensuring they played in the quarter finals against All Saints College, Maitland. Unfortunately, the boys were not victorious in this match however they are to be congratulated for their confident and courageous efforts.

Special mention to Toby O & Ryder T for their skillful ball movement up the middle, also William M and Isaac M for leading links and wing defence.

The 7/8 girls team played four high intensity games of touch football, experiencing three defeats and one victory on the day. Special mention to Molly C who scored 3 tries in one match to secure the 6-0 win over Hunter River High. Throughout the games it was evident the girls grew in confidence, their skills developed significantly and they thoroughly enjoyed the day of competition.

The Year 9/10 Girls team played well throughout the competition on Thursday and experienced a win against Irrawang High School, a tie with Hunter Valley Grammar and a loss against All Saints College Maitland. The girls won their next two games, which saw them through to the semi finals. Although unsuccessful against Tomaree High school in the semi the whole team displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship.

Thank you to Miss Hiles and Mr Sutter for their support and coaching on the day.

On Tuesday 17thJune the girls Bill Turner Trophy squad played Kotara High in Round 3 of the competition. The team, lead by Miss Blackwell played a great game of soccer and gave it their all but unfortunately Kotara High was victorious on the day. Congratulations on making it to this stage of the competition girls!

On Tuesday 7th June the San Clemente U13s boys, took part in the Hunter Schools Rugby League Competition at a wind-swept Lakeside Sports Complex in Raymond Terrace.

The boys played 2 games with the results outlined below;

· Game 1 vs All Saints, Maitland – WINNERS (4 tries to 2)

· Tries to Darren V (2), Tyler J (1) and William M (1)

· Game 2 vs Whitebridge HS – DRAW (4 tries all)

· Tries to Darren V (3) and William M (1)

The drawn second game meant that NRL NSW Officials needed to go back to ‘for and against’ in order to determine who would go through to the semi final. Unfortunately, Whitebridge HS advanced due to their better ‘against’ record.

Stand out performances include;

1. Darren V scoring a hattrick to top off his 5 try tally for the day

2. William M’s barn storming tackle busts

3. Ryder T’s razzle dazzle from the fullback position, and

4. The outstanding level of sportsmanship and comradery by all young men in tough, character building conditions.

Thank you to Mr Burgess and Mr Allan for coaching and mentoring the boys throughout the day.

Congratulations to Lucinda P who represented San Clemente and the Maitland Newcastle Diocese in the NSWCCC Cross Country Championships at Eastern Creek Raceway in early June. Lucinda placed 27th out of 60 runners in a competitive field in the U15s race. This is an amazing effort and result. Well Done Lucinda!

Congratulations to Ruben F who recently trialed for the NSW CCC Football (Soccer) team. Ruben was competing against players 2 years older than himself and successfully made it to the top 30 players in this trial. This is a fantastic achievement Ruben, well done.
