Sport Selections - Rugby League - Upcoming Events

Friday School Sport

It’s that time of the year again when we start to look at Sport Selections for Term 1 2021. This Monday, all students in Year 7, 8 & 9 were emailed a link to their school email address in order to complete their online sport selections for Term 1 2021. Sport selections will close at 3pm this Friday.

Once all Sport lists are finalised, payments for paid sports will open on Thursday 26th November through the Compass Parent Portal. As timetable arrangements for 2021 will be finalised at the end of this year, payments will close on Friday 11th December (Week 9 Term 4).

U13’s Boys Hunter Premiership Rugby League

On Thursday 5th November, our U13’s Boys Rugby League team represented our school in the U13’s Michael Hagan Rugby League Competition at Raymond Terrace.

In some tough and slippery conditions, the boys went down 16-0 in their opening game to a very strong St Josephs Lochinvar, who were the overall winners of the day. The boys bounced back with a determined performance to defeat St Mary’s Gateshead 8-4 in their second game, before going down 12-8 in their final two games against St Paul’s Booragul and St Catherine’s Singleton.

There were some excellent individual performances from the likes of Leon Wilson and Harry Elliot in Year 7, however Marvin Imanil from Year 8 was clearly the standout of the day.

Lastly, a big thank you to Mr Burgess for not only coaching the U13’s, but for working with the boys and training the team during Friday Sport back in Term 1

U14’s & U15’s Boys Hunter Premiership Rugby League

Last Thursday, both our U14’s and U15’s boys rugby league teams competed in the Hunter Premiership Rugby League Competition at Raymond Terrace.

Our Under 14’s started the day with a heavy 24-0 loss against a very good St Joseph’s Lochinvar, before regrouping to beat St Catherine Singleton 12-0 in their second game. The last game was a tight affair, with the boys drawing 8-8 with St Paul’s Booragul. The team, who played in some very warm and muggy conditions, were fantastic all day. Xavier Stewart, Marvin Imanil and Caleb Fox were exceptional in leading the team around the park.

The Under 15’s, who finished 3rd in NSW last year, were very dominant. After beating St Josephs Lochinvar 8-0 in their first game, they then went on to beat St Catherine’s Singleton 12-0 and St Paul’s Booragul 20-0 to finish the day undefeated. Some excellent defence saw the boys not concede a point all day. While the usual suspects in Logan Aoake, Lyji Vaggs and Harrison Sams were excellent, others like Jasper Fraser and Sonny Braddick showed excellent leadership out on the field. This U15’s team is an excellent rugby league team, and it is a shame that due to this year’s events they won’t get the chance to go back down to Sydney to challenge for the State title.

A big thank you to both Mr Allan and Mr Byrne for coaching the boys on the day. Their efforts out in the heat all day was much appreciated by both teams.

U16’s Girls Hunter Premiership Rugby League

On Tuesday, our U16’s Girls Rugby League team took part in the Katrina Fanning Rugby League Competition at Lakeside Sporting Complex, Raymond Terrace. Some of the girls had never played rugby league before, so they were very nervous heading into their first game against Mount View High School. After a nervy start, the girls finished well, going down to Mount View 12-8 in a close game.

Once the confidence started to grow, the results followed. The girls defeated Kotara High School 12-4 in their second game, before defeating a very good St Catherine’s Singleton 12-8 in their last game. There is no doubt that the glue of the team was Taania Agnew, Imogen Hope, and Taia & Lacey Mitchell. These 4 girls are very good footballers and gave a lot of guidance to the other girls with lesser experience.

A great moment was in the last game, when Jatali Ale (who was so nervous at the beginning she wanted to play out on the wing) stormed over under the posts carrying 3 Singleton players with her to score a try.

Lastly, a big thank you to Mrs Browne, who did an outstanding job coaching and mentoring the girls throughout the day.
